Common questions
How do I connect to a server?
Add a connection with the server’s address, its port (usually 22) and your user name, and choose how you sign in: with a password or with a private key. Then choose Connect. You can save your login in the device’s Keychain so you don’t have to enter it again.
Which keys can I use?
OpenSSH private keys. Ed25519 is recommended, and RSA works too. Keys protected with a passphrase are supported.
What does it mean when the server’s identity changed?
The first time you connect to a server, Term42 remembers the server’s key. If the key is different on a later connection, Term42 stops and warns you, because someone could be pretending to be your server. If you know the server was reinstalled or its key was replaced, choose “Forget the Server’s Old Identity” and connect again.
How do I sync my connections between devices?
Protect your connections with a passphrase, then tap the cloud button and sign in with Google or Apple. Sign in with the same account on your other devices and enter the same passphrase there. Connections are encrypted on your device before they are uploaded. Passwords and keys you save stay on each device and are never synced.
I forgot my passphrase.
We can’t recover it. Your connections are encrypted on your device and the passphrase is never sent to us, so nobody but you can open them.
How do I delete my account?
Open the cloud button in the connections list and choose Delete Account. This removes your account, your sessions and the encrypted connections from our server. The connections on your devices are kept.
