Term42 is a terminal. What you type and what your programs print stays on your Mac, except in the two cases described below. Term42 has no analytics, no telemetry and no tracking.

The AI assistant

The assistant contacts your AI provider when you ask it something. When you open the assistant or AI Settings, it also asks the provider which models your API key can use; that request contains no terminal content. When you send a question, Term42 sends to your chosen AI provider:

The default provider is Gutman (api.gutman.ai). You can switch to any OpenAI-compatible service in AI Settings, or turn the assistant off entirely. Your API key is stored in the macOS Keychain on your Mac. The provider you choose handles your requests under its own terms and privacy policy.

Commands the assistant suggests are never run automatically. They run only if you click Run.

Updates

Term42 checks updates.term42.app for new versions about every six hours, and when you choose “Check for Updates”. These requests contain only what any web request contains, such as your IP address and the app version. Updates are signed, and Term42 refuses any update that isn’t signed with our key.

Crash reports

If Term42 crashes, a crash report is saved on your Mac. It is never sent anywhere automatically.

This website

term42.app sets no cookies and uses no analytics. Our web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, time and requested page) to operate and secure the service.
